Greenhouse Challenge Plus:   

Greenhouse Challenge Cooperative Agreement for Peabody Resources Limited.  This group consists of Bengalla Mine, Ravensworth Mine and Warkworth Mine in the Hunter valley in NSW.  

The project involved
preparation of a greenhouse gas emissions inventory and energy benchmarks for Bengalla (a greenfields site) based on expected energy usage for mines where energy management had not been practised,
preparation of the emissions inventory for the other mine sites,
the group emissions inventory,
identification of projects at all mine sites,
action plans,
preparation of the cooperative agreement.  

The agreement was signed in October 1997.  First, second and third annual reports for period ending June 1998, 1999, and 2000. More details are under Stories section.

Greenhouse Challenge Cooperative Agreement for Cyprus Australia Coal Limited. This group consists of Bulga Open Cut Mine, South Bulga Underground Mine, Ellalong/Pelton Colliery, Gretley Colliery, Baal Bone Colliery, Clarence Colliery, and Springvale Colliery.

The project involved
preparation of a greenhouse gas emissions inventories for each mine,
preparation of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the group together with suitable greenhouse gas indicators,
identification of projects at all mine sites,
action plans, and
preparation of the cooperative agreement.  

A visit to each site was made for site inspections and discussions with senior staff.  Close cooperation was maintained with the mine sites and the Greenhouse Challenge Office during the project.

The agreement was signed in October 1997.  

A key element for the on-going implementation of the programme was the emissions inventory database for the group which consisted of an individual multi-page spreadsheet for each site linked to a common spreadsheet for group results.  Data is monitored and reported monthly.
