We offer a comprehensive range of Greenhouse Services:
Greenhouse Challenge Plus (Programme closed 30 June 2009):
The Greenhouse Challenge Programme was established in 1995 and closed on 30 June 2009. It was a voluntary programme between the Commonwealth Government and industry. Participants agreed to:
Establish an emissions inventory of greenhouse gases that result from their activities,
Monitor and manage those emissions,
Set greenhouse gas emissions targets (may be total or per unit targets),
Identify projects to reduce greenhouse emissions,
Implement projects that are economically viable,
Monitor the results against targets,
Report annually to the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO), and
Issue a public statement about their progress with the programme.
Under Greenhouse Challenge (GHC), for small and large organisations we have provided a complete range of services for each of the above stages. We provided:
Programme Implementation and Management, and
Expertly analyse your operations to identify all economic and sustainable opportunities for energy reduction and energy efficiency improvement,
Generate suitable databases and spreadsheets of energy and production which will visually track individual site performance and group performance (where relevant),
Establish energy efficiency benchmarks for the business. We have shown consistently how this allows you to manage your business more efficiently and economically. Whilst we may benchmark your operations against your industry, we take care in the interpretation of results to ensure that the process is valid, i.e. the comparison actually compares similar operations,
Document projects with cost benefit analyses,
Document the Cooperative Agreement including the Public Statement,
Work with businesses to manage the programme if required,
Undertake a similar process for Annual Reporting.
The original GHC Programme was extended and renamed Greenhouse Challenge Plus (GHC+) to include two extra programmes: Greenhouse Friendly and Generator Efficiency Standards. There is no single programme that has replaced this programme except that larger GHC+ participants adopted corporate Energy Efficiency Programmes, the Commonwealth government's Energy Efficiency Opportunities Programme
would be the closest successor.

Greenhouse Challenge Plus Auditing:
A key aspect of the Greenhouse Challenge Programme was for records be kept for independent verification and auditing. The purpose was to foster the credibility of the programme, assist with its improvement and to allow verification of the emissions, accounting and reporting procedures of participants.
Under the Australian Greenhouse Office’s Independent Verification Programme, we have acted as an Independent Verifier in accordance with the verification procedures. Further information may be obtained at the archived AGO Website. [Independent Verification]
We offer a service to independently review Greenhouse Challenge programmes. That service includes as many steps as required to complete the review and identify new projects.
The Greenhouse Friendly programme was a Commonwealth government initiative for manufacturers and service providers to obtain a carbon neutral greenhouse friendly accreditation for a product or service. This means that over the full life cycle of the product, (i.e. from manufacture through sales, customer use and eventual disposal), or the service, i.e., all the activities associated with the provision of that service, all the greenhouse gas emissions that would have been generated by that product or service have been offset with accredited greenhouse gas abatement. The consumer may be confident that a greenhouse friendly product or service results in no greenhouse gases being produced. The process for approval required the completion of a Life Cycle Assessment and an Emissions Monitoring Plan for approval. Similarly, Abatement Providers could obtain certification of their abatement product under Greenhouse Friendly through preparing an Eligibility Statement, an Emissions Abatement Study and a Project Monitoring Plan for approval.
The Greenhouse Friendly programme closed on 30 June 2009. Its successor is the National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS)

Greenhouse Friendly Auditing:
We were pleased to be part of the Greenhouse Friendly programme and were an Accredited Verifier under this programme. As a verifier we undertook all necessary steps as set out in the Greenhouse Friendly verification processes by the Australian Greenhouse Office.

Generator Efficiency Standards Auditing:
The Generator Efficiency Standards ( GES) programme was a programme that required larger generators to measure and to achieve movement towards best practice in the efficiency of fossil-fuelled electricity generation, and to deliver reductions in the greenhouse gas intensity of energy supply.
Introduced on 1 July 2000, the GES measure applied to all fossil-fuelled power generating plants that meet the following criteria:
30 MWe electrical capacity or above
50 GWh per annum electrical output
a capacity factor of 5% or more in each of the last three years.
We were an Accredited Verifier under this programme.
The National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS) is a replacement programme for Greenhouse Friendly. It was introduced on 1 July 2010 to provide national consistency and consumer confidence in the voluntary carbon market. The standard serves two primary functions – it provides guidance on what is a genuine voluntary offset and sets minimum requirements for calculating, auditing and offsetting the carbon footprint of an organisation or product to achieve ‘carbon neutrality’.
The NCOS provides a means of ensuring the environmental integrity of the carbon offsets and carbon neutral products available in the Australian voluntary market for consumers and businesses alike. It assists consumers to make informed choices and interpret carbon neutral claims. It also helps businesses to determine their carbon footprint in line with consumer expectations and ensures they purchase robust offsets. Organisations seeking to voluntarily offset their emissions or achieve carbon neutrality under the NCOS are able to purchase from a range of eligible offset units.
NCOS is administered by Low Carbon Australia
, established by the Australian Government as an independent company to provide financial solutions and advice to Australian business, government and the wider community to encourage action on energy efficiency, cost-effective carbon reduction, and accreditation for carbon neutral products and organisations.

Greenhouse Gas Assessments:
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol
) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. It provides the accounting framework for nearly every GHG standard and program in the world - from the International Standards Organization to The Climate Registry - as well as hundreds of GHG inventories prepared by individual companies
Typically, governments require development projects to use these standards and report on Scopes 1, 2 and 3 Greenhouse Gases and the processes that will be adopted to manage and minimise the emissions.
For example, a development consent may require a quantitative assessment of the potential Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions of the project and qualitative assessment of the potential impacts of these emissions on the environment as well as a detailed description of the measures that would be implemented on site to minimise the greenhouse gas emissions of the project.

Greenhouse Gas and Energy Monitoring Plans:
In addition to Greenhouse Gas Assessments, governments often impose environmental performance conditions on a development relating to Greenhouse and Energy Efficiency. Typically the proponent is required to implement all reasonable and feasible measures to minimise (a) Energy use on site; and (b) Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions produced by the project, to the satisfaction of the Director-General.
Also, the Proponent is required to prepare and implement a Greenhouse Gas and Energy Management Plan for the project, to the satisfaction of the Director-General to be submitted to the Director-General for approval within 12 months of the date of this approval.

Greenhouse Gas Abatement Programme (Historical):
The Greenhouse Gas Abatement Program was a Commonwealth government initiative to assist in the overall objective of reducing the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Under this programme, activities that are likely to result in substantial emission reductions or substantial sink enhancement may receive government support and financial assistance.
We are pleased to provide our professional expertise in assisting with a professional technical evaluation of some of the projects that have been submitted for Rounds 1 and 2 Funding.

The objective of GGAP was to reduce Australia's net greenhouse gas emissions by supporting activities, particularly in the first commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol (2008-2012). $400 million was allocated to the programme between 2000-01 to 2003-04.
NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme:
Trained auditor under the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme. Audits undertaken include the following:
Pre-approval as an Abatement Certificate Provider - public utility’s program to subsidise the supply and installation of energy efficient equipment (demand side abatement),
Accreditation and approval of a number of NGACs created and claimed by a large combined heat and power gas fried power station (Generation Rule No 2)
Approval of the NGACs to be created from a gas fired peaking power station (Demand Side Abatement - Generator)
Accreditation and approval of a number of NGACs created from a gas fired power generation system.
